STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
1. BE HERE and be here ON TIME with all required assignments, books and supplies. Generally, I do not lock the classroom door. If you are late, come in silently. Do not interrupt to apologize or to ask what is going on. You can straighten things out later.
2. Adhere to common courtesy.
• Do not talk when I am teaching.
• Do not interrupt other people.
• Do treat others the way you would like to be treated, respectfully.
3. Neatness counts. I am not a handwriting expert or a code breaker. Assignments should be word processed or handwritten in blue/black ink. If your final work is messy or in pencil, I will hand it back unmarked.
4. Keep a separate binder for English along with several dividers.
5. Racist, sexist, homophobic or offensive language is UNACCEPTABLE and will not be tolerated.
6. Recognize there are other opinions different than yours – respect and do not judge
7. Seek help when necessary and ASK QUESTIONS! If class time is given to complete assignments, USE the time!
8. Respect all items in class and keep the classroom clean
9. If you need to leave the room – ASK. I need to know where you are in case of fire or emergency. Only one person is allowed out with the Hall Pass at a time
10. 15/15 rule
11. Do not use your cell phone/Ipod, etc. unless you first receive permission. Administration will get involved if this becomes a problem.
12. If you miss a class it is YOUR responsibility to find out about missed class work and assignments. If you know you are going to be away ahead of time, please talk to me to arrange work completion.
13. Criteria will be developed with students and explained prior to work on projects/assignments. Criteria development allows for greater understanding, clarity an ownership of assignments resulting in higher achievement and embedded knowledge.
14. Plagiarism is the act of copying, in whole or in part, another’s writing and claiming it as your own. Plagerism is also when sources for research are not cited. You must cite the source of both words and ideas that are not your own. Plagiarised assignments will not be accepted. A new assignment will need to be completed in order to fulfil the required PLO’s and parents/caregivers and administration will be informed of the infraction.
15. Avoid mark grubbing, whining and snivelling at all costs. It’s unbecoming and it tends to make me crabby.
Do your best work, give your best effort and make your mark in this class!
